Is Trek Dead?

By simon on February 18, 2005 in Pop Culture

Past news: Enterprise has been axed.

As many of you have heard, the series Enterprise has been canceled by UPN, apparently under the direction of the man in charge — Les Moonves, who runs UPN’s big brother, the CBS Network. The current head of UPN, Dawn Ostroff, takes her marching orders from Les.

One of the main campaigns to keep the show going, SaveEnterprise.com, now has a fight on their hands, the same one ANGEL faced last year: turning around a publicly announced decision. Just like ANGEL fans did for season four, Enterprise fans were successful in getting the show renewed the year before when the show was “on the bubble” — only to return the next year to find it axed.

SaveEnterprise has already geared up. And it may be said, Trek fans may have already surpassed the enthusiasm of ANGELians: in short order, they’ve produced a full-page ad for the Los Angeles Times, which was published earlier this week (February 15)

You can read about it here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6977068/

A rally is planned in LA, in front of Paramount’s production offices for February 25, and a benefit is already going forth this Friday in Chicago for SaveEnterprise’s project “TrekUnited” — aiming to create a fan-funded season. While such a concept was proposed by some during the attempts to save ANGEL, the Trekkers are the first I’ve heard actually attempting it.

Fan activism is very much alive and kicking.
